The HUB Clevedon

The HUB Clevedon is a visionary community development overlooking the stunning Marine Lake and Salthouse Fields.

The HUB Clevedon

Made from repurposed shipping containers and designed as an inclusive, eco-conscious hub, it will provide essential community services, vibrant play spaces, cultural venues, and visitor attractions.

The ground level will deliver everyday amenities including toilets & changing rooms, cultural attractions, child play areas,  food & drink; an upper-level glazed pavilion (“Glass Box Restaurant”) crowns the hospitality core with panoramic views over the Marine Lake.

External areas include a generous south-facing terrace, a sensory garden, and a children’s games plaza.

The HUB will sit within the current food and beverage site.

Amenities:

Café / Restaurant / Bar

The HUB’s café, restaurant, and bar will exclusively serve Somerset-produced food and drink, celebrating the region’s rich farming and artisanal heritage. Designed as a family-friendly space, it will welcome children with healthy options and relaxed seating. This vibrant venue will create jobs, support local suppliers, and become a warm gathering spot for residents and visitors alike.

Pop-Up Shops and Art Gallery

Rotating pop-up shops and a curated art gallery will provide platforms for local makers, artists, and small businesses. This space will nurture creativity, boost the town’s cultural life, and give residents and visitors access to handmade and locally designed goods. Children will be encouraged to explore and interact with art through seasonal workshops and exhibits.

Museum Space

A dedicated museum space will celebrate Clevedon’s unique heritage—from its railway, Motor Company, to seaside charm—providing an educational and interactive experience for families and school groups. Designed to be engaging for all ages, the museum will inspire pride in local history while attracting tourism and enriching the town's cultural offerings.

Wellness / Yoga

A flexible indoor-outdoor wellness zone will host yoga, mindfulness, and fitness sessions for all ages and abilities. This peaceful setting will promote physical and mental wellbeing within the community, helping people connect with themselves and others. Child-friendly classes will encourage early engagement in healthy habits.

Changing Rooms

The HUB Clevedon will feature clean, accessible changing rooms for open water swimmers enjoying the beautiful Marine Lake just steps away. Designed with convenience, safety, and comfort in mind, these facilities will be open daily, offering a warm, dry space to change before and after your swim — whether you’re a regular cold-water dipper or visiting for the day.

Outdoor Seating with Planting

A thoughtfully landscaped patio area will offer comfortable seating nestled among native and pollinator-friendly plants. This welcoming space will encourage social interaction, offer a calm resting point for families, and contribute to Clevedon’s green footprint. It’s a perfect place to unwind with a locally roasted coffee or ice cream.

Sensory Garden

The sensory garden will be a calming, inclusive space designed with textured plants, gentle sounds, and seasonal scents. Ideal for children and adults alike—including those with additional needs—it will offer a therapeutic experience and quiet retreat from busier areas of The HUB. Educational signs will help children learn through nature play.

Giant Board Games Plaza

This fun and interactive plaza will feature oversized games like chess, Connect Four, and snakes and ladders. Encouraging laughter, social play, and community bonding, it’s a lively space where families can spend quality time together—without screens. The plaza will be open to all and accessible for children of different abilities.

Eco-Friendly Toilets with Rainwater Collection

Sustainability is at the heart of The HUB, and the eco-toilets will use harvested rainwater for flushing and greywater systems. Clean, accessible, and family-ready, they’ll offer baby-changing facilities and support Clevedon’s goal of being a green, future-forward town.

Music / Storytelling Stage

A small outdoor stage will host local musicians, storytellers, and community events—from family concerts to summer storytime and outdoor cinema. It will support Clevedon’s creative scene while also giving children the chance to enjoy live performances in an informal, welcoming setting. Performers will be drawn from across Somerset, ensuring local talent thrives.

Bike Storage

Providing free bike storage at The HUB Clevedon offers a range of social, environmental, and economic benefits. It encourages sustainable, car-free travel for both locals and tourists, helping to reduce traffic congestion, noise, and carbon emissions in the town. By supporting active lifestyles and healthier transport choices, the bike storage makes The Hub more accessible to a wider audience, including families and younger visitors.

First Aid Point

A clearly marked first aid point will ensure safety and peace of mind for all visitors. Staffed during peak hours, it will be child-friendly and stocked to respond to minor incidents. This feature underlines The HUB’s commitment to family friendliness and responsible, inclusive design.

Miniature Railway:

An integral part of The HUB Clevedon will be the sympathetic restoration of the Clevedon Miniature Railway.

This will provide intergenerational joy, enhance tourism, and preserve heritage. It also offers volunteer opportunities and will connect each phase of The HUB via a scenic loop.

Miniature Golf:

As part of a larger hub with café, gallery, museum, wellness spaces, etc., the mini golf complements and enhances the overall visitor offer. It helps make The HUB a destination rather than just a facility. The synergy between the attractions (museum + café + mini golf + pop-up shops) helps all components succeed more strongly.

The HUB aims for the mini golf to become a visible “anchor” attraction, with regular competitions, that raises the appeal of nearby infrastructure and public spaces.

Food at The HUB:

The food at The HUB Clevedon will be a celebration of Somerset’s rich land, local producers, and seasonal rhythms.

Each dish will be thoughtfully crafted using ingredients sourced from within the county.

Menus will be rooted in health-conscious cooking: fresh greens, heritage grains, roasted vegetables, and lean proteins meet rustic flavours and refined presentation.

Think cider-braised sweet potatoes, herby barley risottos, and apple-studded slaws — all naturally balanced and deeply nourishing. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options will be proudly featured throughout, with no compromise on taste.

Above all, the food is real, local, and generous — a modern take on Somerset soul food that supports the local economy and invites everyone, from walkers and families to foodies and freelancers, to eat well and feel at home.

Accessibility and Safety:

  • Level pathways with inclusive surfacing

  • Sensory play options at all zones

  • First aid point at café or eco cabin

  • Staff visible during busy hours or events

Community & Economic Benefits:

As people come to visit The HUB, they are likely to also spend in other local businesses (cafés, shops, galleries, etc). This spillover effect helps local retailers, eateries, and service providers.

• Mental Health: Quiet zones, sensory interaction, and mindfulness sessions.
• Physical Health: Play, yoga, cycling, and fresh air activity.
• Economy: Jobs, tourism, local trade boost via pop-ups and café.
• Social: An inclusive, safe, and inspiring environment for all ages.
• Education: Museum, nature interaction, creative performances.

It is predicted The HUB will contribute £2m to the local economy per annum and provide full time employment for 10 local people, whilst also offering marketing opportunities for local start-up businesses.

Conclusion:

The HUB Clevedon will be more than a space—it's a catalyst for connection, inclusion, enterprise and joy.

By focusing on mental and physical wellbeing, inclusivity, and local enterprise, The HUB Clevedon will invigorate the area, drawing residents and tourists alike and offering long-term financial and social benefits to the town.

With bold vision and thoughtful execution, it can become a World Class feature of the Clevedon seafront for generations to come.
